Back in the late 70s when Breaking was in its crest, there were many parties where bboys, bgirls, lockers, poppers, etc. would come to dance and show off their dancing skills. It wasn't so much a competition per se as we see it nowadays in many international breaking events around the world. This was more of a get-together kind of thing, where everybody would be dancing non-stop to the music that the DJ played. A circle, also called cypher, would eventually form around the dancers in order to allow them to perform their moves and tricks freely. They would bring their best moves to the floor; The nicest styles, the cockiest attitudes, the sickest tricks... they would all be seen at those parties. For these dancers, that was their night, their moment to prove to everyone that they were the best dancers of the night, the hood or even the city. And that's mainly where the concept of Cypher Dynasty came from.

Our goal in hosting these monthly parties at YuGong YiShan is to recreate the atmosphere of those jams in the 70s and make the crowd attending Cypher Dynasty here in Beijing feel the true essence of Hip Hop from those early years.
